Guatemala is a small country, the size of Ohio, located in Central America.

It’s a beautiful country of volcanoes, mountains, and beaches on the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea.

From the Cuchamatan Mountains in the western highlands, to the coastlines on the Caribbean Sea and the Pacific Ocean, this small country is marked by contrasts, and filled with diversity and culture.

A select few of our AP Spanish students at Ralston Valley High School get the honor to visit this diverse and breathtaking country. One of these students includes junior Raymond Leibensperger.

With this new and exciting trip coming up soon, March 21st to be exact, there are several preparations needed to be taken in order to prepare for this adventure of a life time.

Leibensperger states that he and several other AP Spanish students have been, “selling baked goods to fundraise and selling concessions at basketball games”.

Having raised $1,000 already, Leibensperger is one step closer to getting to witness the stunning landscape of Guatemala.

Guatemala is not only known for its striking geography but also for the plethora of activities and attractions it has to offer.

“We are spending a few days in a hotel that’s on a lake by a volcano and we get to go kayaking, and visit several old mine ruins” Leibensperger said.

No matter how many fun and exhilarating activities they will be doing, there’s always the anticipation of that one activity that exceeds the anticipation of the others.

Leibensperger is “most looking forward to spending time with friends outside of the country. And I want to study Spanish in college, and I think that this is a great opportunity to expand my Spanish knowledge.”
