Stephen Colbert made his debut as host of the CBS Late Show on Wednesday, September 9.

It’s been nine long months since I’ve been able to watch Stephen Colbert, and Wednesday night was the triumphant return of one of my favorite late night hosts.

After being named as the host to take over for the great David Letterman, Colbert left behind his Comedy Central family to join CBS in its showcase, late night time slot.

It’s been a tough nine months to get through without the political jokes that come with The Colbert Report, but now that he’s back, it was time for all of the Donald Trump jokes that he could muster.

On top of the many Trump jokes, Colbert had two guests, including George Clooney and Republican Presidential Candidate Jeb Bush.

The stage looks just like you’d expect from most late night shows.  It’s got the elevated desk and seating area, a stage for the band that plays every night, and the open area for the starting monologue and for the band that night to play.

However, what sets it apart from the typical late night television is that a couple of props that he had from the Colbert Report made it to the Late Show.  The most important of these being the Captain America shield.

Also, the clever amount of smart aleck that Colbert brings to the time slot is truly the most crucial element of this show and its eventual success or failure.

Colbert’s interview with Jeb Bush, and all of the Trump jokes, made me realize how much I’ve missed his view on the political landscape.

By the end of the show, I remembered the spunk that Colbert has and what he brings to late night television.

I’m looking forward to seeing how Colbert does throughout the rest of his time with CBS.
