Seniors, it is time to feel old again; and for the underclassman, it is time to learn a little bit about Ralston Valley. The Lisa Nelson Mustang Stampede is coming up on Saturday October 10th this year, and the underclassman might be wondering what this event it really about.

Lisa Nelson was a teacher and Volleyball coach at Ralston Valley when the seniors where freshman; unfortunately, she passed away too soon due to cancer. But what she left in her wake was a message “Pay it Forward”.

Her family wanted the school to have a way to remember not only her, but also her message. The family decided to represent Lisa by creating a scholarship for students instead of having flowers at her funeral; from there, Ralston Valley decided to do their part in remembering the beloved coach.

The Lisa Nelson Mustang Stampede allows Ralston Valley to raise the money for the scholarships, and then awards it later in the year to a student who represents Ralston Valley student athletes.

Some of the past recipients are Jonathon Gillespie, Evan Gustafson, Madison Gomer, and Madalena DeAndrea. Each of these students excelled in academics and athletics, representing what Lisa Nelson held close to her heart.

So on October 10th, remember Lisa Nelson message to “Pay it Forward” and take part in the run/walk, or just make a donation.
