This past Thursday, September 17, Ralston Valley held the Men’s Choir Festival, welcoming many Men’s Choirs from high schools all over. Special guests, led the talented group of men in warm ups then the first run through of the songs every choir received to perform together. One by one, each men’s choir performed a song. Ranging from the hard beat of the drum, to dancing around while singing about marrying an ugly woman, the men’s choir festival was quite the sight to see. “My favorite part was listening to Lakewood sing Barbara Ann, “stated junior Will Siegrist.

Will Siegrest and fellow junior Seth Rosenow have been singing all their lives and are always looking forward to the next choir festival. “It’s interesting to listen to each high school sing just to hear the difference between each choir” Seth Rosenow explains.

September 19, Ralston Valley JV Football took on rival Arvada West. Another game the JV team was going to put up a good fight for. With a perfect 2-0 record RV walked away with the win, 55-8. Just a couple plays into the game, Tight end junior Matthew Wyckoff scored two back to back touchdowns pumping up the team and making the crowd go wild. “I was just glad I could help the team, “stated Matt. JV football is made up of some extremely talented and dedicated players. Play after play, the team put their best foot forward to continue the winning streak. “I thought it was pretty hilarious when Kris Keelan ripped the ball from the QB’s hands and ran for about 30 yards,” JV quarterback Cole Ingersoll explains. Even with a perfect record the team is always looking for ways to better themselves. Football is not just a sport it’s a way of life. “It means the world to me to play for a team like the Mustangs is great,” sophomore Tony Gallardo explains.

Each player brings something special to the team. Every practice, every down on the field, every touchdown and every win means something to the team. It’s a group effort to continue to have back to back phenomenal seasons. “Well, as a team we played well. Offense put up a lot of points and defense forced a ton of turnovers and takeaways. Big win against a big rival for sure.” states Cole Ingersoll.  There are many sports to choose from, everything ranging from baseball to golf to basketball. Football, however, is the sport to play. “Football is my stress reliever and my way to escape and have fun. Everybody has a time to escape the world and my way is through football, “says Tony Gallardo.

Baseball may be America’s pastime, but football has become America’s sport. If you have ever seen the Houston Texans T.V. Hard Knocks, you would understand the importance of the game, the importance of building such a strong team that they become your second family.  Matthew Wyckoff clearly explains, “The best part about playing football is being able to play with my family and to get that “chicken and shrimp.””
