When thinking about Ralston Valley fall sports the majority of students think of boys football or soccer, rarely does a student think of cross country, much less girls cross country. But this year Ralston Valley is home to the cross country league champion, Katie Bearup, senior.

The meet took place on Homecoming Friday, October 16, 2015, at Robert F. Clement Park in Littleton, and Varsity girls had a later start time for their race. The build up to the race for Katie Bearup was “nerve-wracking”, but after she was really “excited”.

But she was not alone, “The running community has such a close bond and understanding of one another that a lot of the other teams and coaches all congratulated me, as well, which was humbling and special.”

Although Katie didn’t know she always wanted to run, before she played soccer for years, “I started running just to do something to do to be with my friends.” Through running, cross country and track, she met some of her best friends and had great experiences.

Like the majority of seniors, Katie has yet to decide on a college she will attend in the fall, but she defiantly plans on running for a college.

Katie Bearup is one example of a student from Ralston Valley that took advantage of the many sports that the school has to offer, and from it, she has found her passion.
