Every fall, Ralston Valley Student Government (StuGo) walks the cafeteria, providing students the chance to vote on a Homecoming theme.

No identification is needed, so iPads are simply passed from table to table, and from student to student, so votes can be cast via a Google Form.

This simple system makes voting quick and easy, allowing interested students to have input into selecting RV’s Homecoming theme.

Sounds good, right? Of course it does.

However, The Review recently learned that the online “ballot box” was being stuffed by StuGo members to ensure ‘Go Greek or Go Home’ would be this year’s homecoming theme.

Student body President Ben Gillespie refused to comment on the record about these rumors.

Other StuGo members confirmed these rumors are a reality.

“Instead of going around to students (during lunches) they just kept clicking their own votes, over and over again,” said an anonymous senior in Student Government.

And that may explain the confusion behind the mystery of why ‘Go Greek or Go Home’ quickly and suddenly surpassed ‘Old Hollywood’ as this year’s Homecoming theme.

While plenty of non-StuGo students voted during lunch periods, StuGo representatives walked from table to table, inputting votes in favor of “Go Greek or Go Home”, creating an obvious advantage for one theme over another.

“Everyone I know, and myself, wanted ‘Old Hollywood’,” said freshman Katie Olsen. “Yet, somehow, it didn’t win.”

“Some StuGo students just clicked ‘Go Greek or Go Home’, over and over, during the voting periods,” said a StuGo representative, explaining the confusion.

Another anonymous StuGo representative said, “It would not surprise me if they cheated with the votes. The system we use for the voting isn’t really fair.”

Additionally, according to StuGo sources, some members of the organization wanted to “stop the voting when their (preferred) theme was ahead” in the voting, an obvious misstep in representing the entire RV student body.

One StuGo member who spoke to The Review was under the impression that ‘Old Hollywood’ was leading the vote for this year’s Homecoming theme, “when two StuGo representatives who were advocating for ‘Go Greek or Go Home’ got the link and added votes on their phone.”

The talk of RV’s Student Government controlling votes — something confirmed by multiple members of the class — and tipping these polls in favor of their interests, brings into question the legitimacy of this year’s homecoming theme.
