Lil Uzi Vert is becoming one of today’s most popular artists. Uzi, born in Philadelphia, is a young 24-year-old rapper and is only beginning to hit the music industry. He started rapping in 2016 and made it big with his debut album Luv is Rage. Recently, the sequel to Uzi’s first album, Luv Is Rage 2, was released. Early singles and leaked songs created major hype for the release of Luv is Rage 2 and would later become one of the most anticipated albums of the year. The hype was real, this album is Uzi’s best musical work and it even surpasses the greatness of Luv Is Rage.

When Luv is Rage 2 was released, it reached number one on the Billboard Top 100 list and sold over 135,000 copies. The album includes 16 songs, featuring famous artists such as Pharrell, The Weekend, and Oh Wonder. The melody and rhythms of the music weave through thundering electronic beats to keep consistent with Lil Uzi Vert’s style of music. Uzi relied heavily on his vocals during Luv is Rage. However,  Luv is Rage 2 features stronger structure and its songwriting boosts the sound like it is on steroids. He produces most of the lyrics through past events that have caused stress or anxiety in his life. Therefore leading him to reduce the use of autotune and reflect his true emotions into the song. This portrays a different Lil Uzi Vert like never heard before. In the song, “The Way Life Goes” he reflects on his past relationship with his ex-girlfriend. Uzi sings, “I know it hurts sometimes but you’ll get over it/You’ll find another life to live/I swear that you’ll get over it,” with near perfect vocals. This past experience allowed him to put his full emotions into the song and produce a truly lyrical masterpiece.

Uzi possesses a unique rapping skill set that persuades millions of people to listen to him. Uzi’s voice is very different from most rappers; his distinctive pitch and rhythm combined with the vibrant beats of his producer make his sound soothing to the ear like no other. For instance, most modern day rappers, such as Lil Pump, yell and recite lines that become repetitive and boring to listen too. Uzi creates a whole different category that keeps you upbeat until the song ends.

I am now realizing that this album will be a defining moment in Uzi’s career and will be looked backed at for centuries to come. Most of the songs hit the top 25 iTunes charts and had millions of streams played across the world. My favorite and the most popular song on the album, “Xo Tour Life” reached triple platinum and is considered Uzi’s best song of all time. Every song on the album raised my emotions and spread emotions of euphoria throughout my body making me feel as if I was at the live concert. Lil Uzi Vert is starting a new trend in rap that many other artists are copying. Listeners should become accustomed to his music because his style is the future.
